Athuman Kiria

Athuman Kiria is 12 years old and is from Usangi in the Kilimanjaro region. His parents divorced when he was very young and he grew up with his grandmother.

He tells the Amani social workers that his grandmother was unable to feed and clothe him. He ran to the streets of Moshi in search of work. What he found was hunger and harassment from the police.

Amani’s Street Educator brought Athuman to Amani in May 2009. He is now studying in Amani’s On-site Education Program. He enjoys learning carpentry with Teacher Kamera and hopes one day to be a professional farmer. Amani’s social workers are working with Athuman’s grandmother to find his mother and father.
