Collin Fratern
Collin is 14 years old and comes from Rombo, a village outside of Moshi. When Collin was 9 both of his parents died and he was sent to live with his aunt. Adjusting to his new life without his mom and dad was hard and Collin repeatedly ran away, searching for something to take his mind off his parents.
He lived on the streets for several months. He survived by selling scraps of metal that he collected from the city dump. Occasionally he could talk a tourist into buying him a meal, but he often went hungry.
In February 2009, Amani’s street educators rescued Collin from the streets and today he sleeps on a mattress and eats three healthy meals each day. Though he’s 14, Collin has had very little education. At Amani he is finishing his first year of primary school. He loves to help out in the kitchen, helping the cooks prepare meals. Collin loves airplanes and dreams of becoming a pilot one day.
