Daudi Amani
Daudi, age 8, was brought to Amani by the police in 2001 after being abandoned as a toddler at the central bus station in Moshi. Autistic and unable to speak, the Amani staff were unable to learn his history when he arrived at the center. Daudi loves sweets, listening to music, and playing with water. Recently, two special needs teachers have come to volunteer at Amani, and Daudi has made amazing progress with their help. He is now able to respond to a few questions by using sign language.
