Issa Habibu
Issa is 13 years old and comes from the village of Sombetini, near Arusha. He lived with his father and grandmother. Issa’s friends convinced him that he could find a paying job in Arusha and so he left his home with them.
He lived on the streets for several weeks. He told Amani’s social workers that he was often beat up by older homeless youths. He managed to survive by begging for food and scouring the city dump for scrap metal, which he could sell to local shopkeepers.
Amani’s street educators rescued Issa and he is now living and studying at Amani Children’s Home. He enjoys science, mathematics, and playing football (soccer) with his friends. After primary school he wants to study to be a driver.
