Kalisti Jumanne

Kalisti, 11, was left with his blind and elderly grandmother after his mother passed away from an AIDS-related illness. He wandered the streets with his grandmother, surviving on the meager food and money given by passerby. When he came to Amani, Kalisti was 8 years old and weighed only 15 kilograms (33 lbs.). He has improved tremendously since then, but is developmentally delayed as a result of years of malnutrition. Beloved by the Amani staff, Kalisti is energetic and affectionate, and loves going to school. Now studying with a special eduction instructor, Kalisti is making great progress.
