Meet the Management Team

With the full support of the Board of Trustees, Amani Children’s Home is led by a team of dedicated professionals.

Valerie Todd, Director

Valerie works in collaboration with the local management team to bring Amani’s mission to life. She focuses on organizational development, staff capacity building, and raising support through the Friends of Amani groups. Valerie received degrees in African Studies and Psychology from Duke University and has certificates in NGO Management and Organizational Capacity Building. Valerie joined the Amani team in 2002, nine months after Amani was founded by local Tanzanians.

Japhary Salum, Social Work Coordinator

Japhary runs the social work programs at Amani, which include street education, family reunification, counseling, and advocacy. Japhary has graduate and post-graduate degrees in Social Work, as well as a certificate in Organizational Development. Before coming to Amani, Japhary taught social work at the Newman Institute of Social Work.

Rogasian Massue, Primary Care Services Coordinator

Rogasian handles Amani’s primary care services, which include everything having to do with daily life at the home – day and night caregiving, health care, the kitchen, supplies and inventory, sports, faith, and extracurricular activites. Rogasian has a BA in sociology and has an extensive background in children’s rights, project management, and monitoring and evaluation. Before coming to Amani, Rogasian worked as an advisor for Progressio in Northwest Somalia (Somaliland).

Brenda comes from the East Africa International School in Dar es Salaam and will start work at Amani on March 22nd. We can’t wait to welcome her to the team!
