Alphan Babu
Originally from Babati, Alphan’s rough and tumble relationship with his mother drove him to a life on the streets. While on the streets he supported himself by collecting and selling scrap metal. At Amani, Alphan became a hard-working student with a passion for English and mathematics.
At the end of 2008, Alphan was reunified with his mother and his grandparents after living at Amani for nearly a year. This reunification became possible after both Alphan and his parents agreed to participate in extensive family counseling. Now reunited and enjoying life at home, Alphan symbolizes the fruition of Amani’s goal to provide a second chance to children forced to live on the street.
Amani will continue to support Alphan by paying his school fees and providing regular follow-up visits and counseling for both him and his parents.
