Rescuing Children. Restoring Hope. Transforming Lives.

Edward Nicodem

Edward is 14 years old and comes from the village of Babati, outside of Arusha. After his parents passed away he went to live with his elderly grandmother. He was forced to work on his grandmother’s farm and wasn’t able to go to school, so he ran away.

Edward lived on the streets for just 3 days before one of Amani’s Street Educators met him and told him about Amani. Still, the short time without a place to sleep was extremely difficult and Edward was happy to fall asleep on a real bed.

Edward was enrolled in Amani’s Starter’s Class while our social workers met with his grandmother, explaining the support that Amani can offer to help her take care of Edward. Edward returned home in April 2009 and says he’s excited to begin school at Managha Primary School. Edward says his goal is to work hard and finish his primary schooling and then enter secondary school. He wants to one day become a doctor so that he can care for his aging grandmother.
