Gerald Gofrey
16 year old Gerald comes from West Kilimanjaro. He ended up living on the streets after coming to Moshi to look for work. When he was lucky enough to get some money through begging or doing small jobs, it was often stolen by older children.
Gerald came to Amani in 2008 and began classes in Amani’s Onsite Education Program. In April 2009 Gerald went home to his parents. One of the biggest challenges that Gerald faced was the limited options he had for his future. At Amani he learned how important education is. Amani has agreed to pay for Gerald’s tuition and Mr and Mrs Gofrey have agreed to make sure Gerald continues his studies.
The Gofrey family is whole once again and Gerald and his parents are happy about that. Japhary Salem, Amani’s Social Work Coordinator, says that he is proud of the social work department’s efforts in seeing this reunification through to its successful conclusion.
