Joseph Leonard
Joseph, 17, comes from the village of Kibosho, north of Moshi town. He lived there with his grandmother, father and his father’s new wife. Joseph’s step-mother wanted him to leave home to make room for her own children. She beat him regularly and his father often treated him poorly.
Joseph ran to the streets of Moshi where he spent two weeks looking for food and shelter. He had several run-ins with the local police who beat him and told him to go home. Luckily, Joseph met Amani’s Street Educator and he agreed to come to Amani.
Amani’s social workers held family counseling sessions with Joseph’s father and step-mother. They agreed that the best place for him was to return home and finish his primary school education. Joseph is currently enrolled in school and happy to be back home.
