Juma and Lumi Kandi
After their parents’ divorce, Juma and Lumi Kandi moved in with their grandmother in Babati, a small village near Arusha. When their grandmother was unable to care for them, the brothers were forced to turn to the streets to survive. After living on the streets for a few months, Juma and Lumi made their way to Amani where they enrolled in school and began to flourish both in and out of the classroom.
On December 15, 2008, after eight months at Amani, the brothers were reunified with their mother in Babati. After going through a very difficult period following her divorce, their mother had since recovered and desperately sought to have her boys back. Thrilled to be going home, Juma and Lumi enrolled in a local primary school so that they could continue their studies.
In an effort to ensure the success of the family reunification, Amani is providing school materials, paying school fees, and sending social workers on regular home visits.
