Laurent Musiba
This 12-year old boy from a small village on the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro lived with his older sister after his mother died. He struggled with the loss and acted out against his sister and brother-in-law’s attempts to discipline him. He decided to take his chances on the streets.
Laurent spent a month living on the streets of Moshi, where he was regularly involved in fights with older boys. He survived by begging from passing tourists.
Laurent came to Amani in September 2009. As soon as he arrived Amani’s social workers began looking for Laurent’s father. In late October Laurent was reunited with his dad near Lake Victoria. He is studying at primary school and Amani’s social workers continue to make regular visits to make sure Laurent and his father are doing well.
