Margeret Joseph
Margeret is 13 years old. Her mother was talked into bringing her to the home of a wealthy family with promises that Margeret would be enrolled in school and be given a good life.
Margeret’s adoptive family didn’t send her to school, but instead forced her to work long hours as a maid. Margeret’s mother returned to her native Kenya and has since passed away. A neighbor of the family recognized Margeret’s situation and brought her to Amani to get help.
Amani’s social workers were able to trace Margeret’s maternal grandparents in the village of Namanga across the border of Kenya. They agreed to take young Margeret in and provide for her and a reunification was made in May of 2008. Amani’s social workers are happy that Margeret is being cared for by her relatives and are hopeful about her future. They will make regular check ups on Margeret to ensure she is happy and safe.
