Michael Chachu
Michael left his home in Rombo during a severe drought in 2003. There was little to eat and Michael believed the streets of Moshi would be better than nearly constant hunger.
Michael spent his days begging for food from tourists. Michael met Godfrey, one of Amani’s Street Educators, in late 2003 and was brought to Amani where he was enrolled in school.
Michael was reunited with his mother and father in 2004 after the rains began to fall again in Rombo. Michael is in Form 3 of secondary school, just one year from graduating – an accomplishment only 7% of Tanzanian students achieve. Amani continues to pay for Michael’s school fees. He enjoys playing soccer and is a talented traditional dancer.
