Rescuing Children. Restoring Hope. Transforming Lives.

Seleman Hashimu

Seleman is 11 years old and comes from the village of Kondoa. He lived with his father and step-mother until his father left to search for work in Arusha. After several months of not hearing from him, a neighbor offered to take Seleman into Arusha to look for his father.

Once in Arusah, they were unable to find Seleman’s father. The neighbor couldn’t afford to support Seleman and so left him to fend for himself. Seleman slept on the pavement and ate very little food for 4 months. Amani’s street educator found Seleman and saw that he was in danger of starving to death.

In August 2009, Amani’s social workers found Seleman’s grandmother and she agreed to take Seleman into her home and raise him as her son. Seleman is now enrolled in a local primary school, where his favorite subject is mathematics. He hopes to someday become an engineer. Amani has agreed to pay for his school fees to help his grandmother with the costs of caring for her grandson.
