Our Projects
At Amani, we are dedicated to transforming the lives of vulnerable children through a variety of impactful initiatives.
The projects of Amani support our approach and ensure that we can provide optimal help to the children. Our projects are designed to address the complex challenges faced by street-connected children and those from abusive backgrounds.
The Safe House Project
Since its inauguration in August 2019, the Safe House has provided safe temporary shelter and emergency social work intervention for 120 children each year.
Most of these children are girls (ages 5-17), who have bravely overcome challenges such as sexual abuse, severe physical abuse, child marriage, domestic slavery, or child trafficking. The Safe House also extends its care to young boys (ages 5-13), rescued from similar situations.
Drop-In Centres
Amani actively operates two daytime drop-in centres in the areas close to the busiest markets and bus parks in Arusha and Moshi. These centres play a vital role in our child rescue efforts by building trust and rapport with the children, and becoming a safe space for them to interact with our team, and providing access to free medical services, counselling and life skills’ training sessions.
Through this initiative, we have also trained over 50 community champions (volunteers) who assist in rescuing children on behalf of Amani.
The Safe Haven Foster Care Project
Amani offers alternative family-based care under the Safe Haven Foster Care Project to support children on their journey to family reunification. We recruit, train and register caring foster parents to provide a temporary loving home as an alternative pathway to residential care.
This project focuses on younger children (ages 5 to 12) who have only lived on the streets for a short time. It serves as a bridge to family reintegration, offering children stability, healing and the support they need before reuniting with their biological families. By providing this safe and nurturing environment, we help children regain trust and prepare for a successful transition back home.
Girls In Sex Work
Amani works to rescue young teenage girls (ages 11-16) who are street-connected and engaged in commercial sex work. We offer these girls a safe space for them to heal, learn, and grow while providing them with alternative pathways and support through personalized counselling and guidance, life skills training and apprenticeship opportunities.
Following out interventions, many of these girls successfully transition into more stable and fulfilling job roles as hair braiders, tailors, and restaurant servers.
The Kiladeda Farm Project
The Amani Kiladeda Farm Project takes a proactive approach to addressing the complex needs of former street-connected children, creating a safe and supportive environment for their growth and development.
Through weekly lessons on sustainable agricultural practices, the children are equipped with the essential life skills on self-sufficiency and environmental responsibility.
At Amani, we commit to providing holistic care and long-term impact to empower the future of these children in our care.
