Sharifa’s story of commitment and resilience
Sharifa at her work station in VTC.
Orphaned at a young age, Sharifa was forced to take on challenging jobs as a housekeeper. Here, she was often abuses and fired from her work. Eventually, she found herself on the streets, where an Amani Street Educator rescued her and brought her to our safe house in Arusha before transferring her to Moshi.
Because she had struggled with school in her past, Sharifa was enrolled in Amani’s in-house education program so she could learn to read, write and count before she was taken to a vocational training college. At Vocational Training College (VTC), Sharifa discovered a passion for tailoring and fashion design. Though once considered a slow learner, she is now excelling in her craft.
In a joyful turn, Amani social workers located her family, allowing her to reunite with loved ones, including her grandmother. Now 15, Sharifa is committed to building a future as a fashion designer while supporting her family. Thank you for making a difference in the lives of girls like Sharifa.
