From the streets of Arusha to earning a mechanical engineering degree

Seraphine at his graduation ceremony in Mbeya, Tanzania.

Seraphine John—one of our Amani children—earned his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Mbeya University of Science and Technology (MUST) with an impressive GPA of 4.5! This was a proud moment for us at Amani, and a shining example of what care, education and unwavering determination can accomplish.

Seraphine’s journey was not easy. Abandoned as a baby, he spent his early years bouncing between homes and later faced years of hardship, living in sewers and bus stations in Arusha. But his life changed when an Amani street worker found him. Today, Seraphine is a proud engineer!

Seraphine’s story represents what is possible when we come together to support children in need. His success is an inspiration to us as we continue our mission of transforming more lives of these vulnerable children.

Watch the video below to hear his testimony as he shares his journey through Amani.
